MAHNÉDAN - Mahnedan, Wielka Rzeka, rzeczownik złożony, nazwa własna
mahné - dan /max'nedan/
máhnè - czasownik statyczny odmieniony w 3 os. liczby pojedynczej w czasie teraźniejszym prostym, a więc znaczący "jest duży";
dan - rdzeń słowotwórczy, pojawiający się w nazwach rzek, powiązany z rzeczownikiem dā́nnu - rzeka, i tak samo jak on odmieniany czasem jako rzeczownik pierwszego rodzaju (byty nadprzyrodzone, siły natury), a czasem jako czwartego rodzaju (rzeczy i abstrakcje).
Oczywiście mnisi Losu woleliby, by prosty lud zawsze pamiętał, że Mahnedan jest być może i życiodajną i potężną, ale tylko rzeką, a nie bóstwem godnym czci. Ich starania w większości kończą się sukcesem, ale problem z przypisaniem Wielkiej Rzeki do tylko jednego rodzaju gramatycznego pokazuje, jak trudne jest to zadanie.

MAHNÉDAN - Mahnedan, the Great River, compound noun, proper name
mahné - dan /max'nedan/
máhnè - a static verb conjugated in the 3rd person sing. form in the present simple tense, so it means "it is big";
dan - a word-forming root which appears in the names of rivers, connected with the noun dā́nnu - river. Like it, it's sometimes declined in the 1st grammatical gender (supernatural beings, forces of nature), and sometimes in the 4th (things and abstractions).
Of course, the monks of Fate would rather the common folk remembered that Mahnedan is, perhaps a life-giving and mighty, but still merely a river, and not a god worthy of worship. Their efforts usually end in success, but the issue of categorizing the Great River in only one gender shows just how difficult their task is.
