Jest siedem podstawowych sił, które wg uczonych mnichów Losu porządkują życie każdego człowieka: Gwiazdy (ástarri), Słońce (sóhel), Chmury (nébbi), Krew (sánhre), Rzeka (dā́nnu), Gleba (lánna) i Skała (péhra).
Gwiazdy obracają się w swych kryształowych sferach ponad dyskiem świata, przekazując wolę Losu tym śmiertelnikom, którzy potrafią ją odczytać. Ustawione w dwory przedwiecznych herosów, których potężne sylwetki po dziś dzień inspirują żyjących, ścierają się i mijają na nocnym niebie pod czujnym okiem księżyca. Ich zimne światło ogrzewa chętnych ogniem poznania, ich taniec wprawia w zachwyt wszystkich patrzących.

Słońce przerywa taniec gwiazd, narzucając światu swój porządek. Rozgania mroki nocy zarówno chcącym jeszcze pospać, jak i zziębniętym, zagubionym oraz przerażonym. Wedle jego ogrzewającego dyktatu rosną i kwitną rośliny, migrują ptaki i zwierzęta, a ludzie pracują i starzeją się, co ranek stając na raz ze słońcem twarzą w twarz.

Chmury są tymi, które przesłaniają zarówno słońce, jak i gwiazdy. Wilgoć porannej mgły zrasza łąki, a potęga monsunu nawadnia całe krainy. Niewinna chmura może przenosić w sobie furię pioruna, jak owca bodąca rogiem, może też być niesiona wiatrem co rozgoni ciemne, skłębione zasłony.

Krew użyźnia glebę i wypełnia ją żądzą życia. Przepływa w ludziach z pokolenia na pokolenie, przekazując humory przodków, rozpalając ich do gniewu i do miłości, zapędzając do bratobójczej walki i do twórczej pasji. Krew jak dług spaja rzeczywistość, swym przelaniem kupując przelewającemu zyski w przyszłości.

Rzeka uświęca świat jednymi wodami na dole, a drugimi na górze. Kto spływa z jej nurtem, wraca odmieniony upływem dni i lat. I chociaż wydaje się, że ciągle się zmienia, to tak naprawdę zmienia się wszystko wokół, rzeka zaś jest wieczna.

Gleba czeka wiernie, leży i pachnie, a gdy przychodzą wilgotne wiatry, ze swego płodnego łona wydaje głośne życie - bujną roślinność, wijące się robactwo, ptaki, woły i tygrysy. Im kto bardziej się w niej unurza i ubrudzi, tym może być pewniejszy obdarzenia bogactwem z jej żyznego skarbca. I nawet gdy przebrzmieje, gleba pozostaje młoda młodością złożonych w nią prochów.
Skojarzenia: płodność, leczenie, macierzyństwo, kreatywność, pracowitość, życie
Skała zaś leży jako fundament wszystkiego, co nad nią - milcząca, ponura i nieruchoma, z wyjątkiem tych chwil, gdy gniewnie wybucha ogniem i hukiem. Ze swego ognistego łona daje ludziom potrójne skarby - kamienie na domostwa, złoto do pożądania, i żelazo, by się mogli zabijać.
Skojarzenia: kataklizm, ogień, bogactwo, spokój, chciwość, stabilność
Wiele pokoleń zajęło mnichom Losu, by z niegdysiejszych bóstw pozostały jedynie powyższe bezosobowe siły, niegodne czci i kultu. Nadal jednak prosty lud wierzy w echa dawnych przesądów, w różnych porach roku i życia dopełniając uproszczonych rytuałów według zapomnianego wzoru.

There are seven fundamental forces, which, according to the learned monks of Fate, govern the life of every human: the Stars (ástarri), the Sun (sóhel), the Clouds (nébbi), the Blood (sánhre), the River (dā́nnu), the Soil (lánna) and the Stone (péhra).
The stars turn in their crystal spheres above the disc of the world, passing the will of Fate to those mortals who can read it. Ordered into the courts of age-old heroes, whose mighty figures inspire the living till this day, they squabble and pass each other under the watchful eye of the moon. Their cold light warms the eager with the fire of knowledge, their dance awes all who look.

The sun interrupts the stars' dance, imposing its order on the world. It disperses the darkness of night both for those who wish to sleep, and for those who are cold, lost and scared. According to its warming dicatate the plants grow and blossom, the birds and animals migrate, and the people work and grow old, standing with the sun face to face each morning.
Connotations: day, fire, authority, warmth, joy, pride
The clouds are the ones which cover both the sun and the stars. The moisture of the morning mist waters the meadows, and the might of the monsoon hydrates whole regions. An innocent cloud can carry within the fury of lightning, like a sheep hitting with its horn, but it can also be carried by wind that is about to disperse the dark, billowing veils.
Connotations: moisture, life, soaring, generosity, rest
The blood fertilizes the soil and fills it with the lust of life. It flows in the people from generation to generation, transmitting the ancestors' humors, inflaming them to anger and to love, herding them to fratricidal strife and to creative passion. Blood, like debt, bonds reality, with its spillage buying future gains for the one who spills it.
Connotations: ancestry, love, life, hastiness, fire
The river sanctifies the world with one water below and one above. Who swims with its course comes back changed by the passage of days and years. Like droples of rain, the river collects the efforts of men, giving back a bountiful harvest and a chance to profit to the dilligent and honest, but floods and malarious plagues to the lazy and dishonest. However it may seem that it is constantly changing, in truth it is everything around it that changes, and the river is eternal.
Connotations: time, water, trade, change, hope
The soil lays in waiting, fragrant, and when the moist rains come, from its fertile womb it gives forth noisy life - verdant greenery, writhing vermin, birds, oxen, and tigers. The more one drenches and dirties oneself in it, the more one can be sure of receiving opulence from its fecund treasury. And even when it withers away, the soil remains young with the youth of ashes buried in it.
Connotations: fertility, healing, motherhood, creativity, diligence, life
The stone lies as the foundation of everything that is above it - silent, grim and motionless, except for those moments when it erupts with fire and thunder. From its fiery womb it gives mankind threefold treasures - stones for building, gold for coveting, and iron to kill one another.
Connotations: cataclysm, fire, wealth, calm, greed, stability
It took monks of Fate many generations to change the erstwhile gods into these impersonal forces, unworthy of praise and cult. Still, the common folk believes in echoes of bygone superstitions and conducts simplified rites at various times of year and life, according to a forgotten formula.
