Frakcję rządząca i frakcję przeciwną zrobimy w jednym wpisie. Opisy następnych dzielnic będą krótsze i będą zajmowały 1 wpis każdy.

Lionnis is alive! The project isn't dead, and I intend to finish describing this city by the end of the year, but I'll do so under different rules than before.
We'll cover the ruling faction and the opposing faction in this one post. Descriptions of the subsequent districts will be shorter, taking up one post each.
Since both the Town Hall and the entrance to the High Castle are located in Square of Five Gates, the factions I'll describe here are the most important in the entire city, controlling both of these places of power. We've already met the representative and leader of one of them – Amber Check of the house Mud Crane, Chancellor of the Lionnis City Council and Grandmaster of the Most-Lucky Guild of Financiers and Bankers. Firstly, as Chancellor, he represents and influences the opinion of the guilds – both the 321 small ones and, more importantly, the 17 large ones – which is crucial if the King or the Synod want to finance a new military campaign or the renovation of a temple. Secondly, as Grandmaster of Bankers, he can grant loans and create money on a scale almost unmatched on the entire continent. Thirdly, and most importantly, as head of the Mud Crane family, he stands at the apex of a vast pyramid of dependencies, without which he would not have attained the other two positions. Obtaining both the Chancellorship and Grandmastership are subject to strings attached, but he simply inherited his position as the head of the Mud Crane family (not without fighting, appeasing, or disappearing of three brothers, sixteen cousins, and five uncles). The title of Master of the Bankers Guild was his by birthright, but being elected Grandmaster required the death of his predecessor at the opportune moment and the making of numerous promises behind the scenes - and to people who are all very well-off. He became Grandmaster once and for life, while maintaining his position as Chancellor depends on the continued support of the Small Chamber - but this is the position that grants him real power and influence over the city's fate.
The faction centered around the Mud Cranes is interested in generating revenue through trade and limited warfare - just enough to ensure a steady stream of captives to keep the labor costs low. For the same reason, they are teihelogically closer to the Right Hand of Fate.
The Mud Cranes' opponents is the house Swift Turtle, led by the elected High King, Black Horse, who rules under the name Valiant Lion, and his uncle, the Arch-Prior of the City Synod, Light Quill. The Swift Turtles also have a representative in the Small Chamber in the person of the Grandmaster of the Blacksmiths and Armorers Guild, another uncle of the king, Iron Sky, around whom the opposition to the Mud Cranes' plans coalesces. From the sheer number of individuals mentioned, it's clear that the Turtles are the more powerful family, whose path to power began with achieving the position of Grandmaster of the Smiths, then pushing their way into the Small Chamber, and subsequently gradually tightening their influence around the royal court. Currently, Valiant Lion is the third High King chosen from the Swift Turtles, and for life at that. As he is two decades younger than the Amber Check, the future of his reign looks bright.
The faction centered around the Swift Turtles is interested in profiting from war – extracting tribute from defenseless neutral towns, plundering towns subject to other Great Cities, and bringing in as many prisoners of war as possible to enable the construction of grand infrastructure projects. Teihelogically, they gravitate towards the Left Hand of Fate, but of course, they won't admit it lest their actions seem reckless.
These are the two largest families vying for influence in the City of Lions. In the next entry, we'll take a look at the Turtles' seat of power - the High Castle.
