Słowo "huat" wywodzi się jeszcze z Arhedihtu, Starej Mowy, w której wygląda tak:

ÁHVIOT /ˈaxvʲiot/ - kupiec

Jest to imiesłów czynny czasownika áhvia - kupować, i oznacza po prostu wykonawcę tej czynności.

W ciągu wieków słowo to zmieniało swą formę, być może w taki sposób:

áhviot > ahvíot > ahʋíot > əhwát > hwát (pisane huat)

Obecnie Huaci stanowią, obok Apów, Teków, Lhamów, Langów i Psingów, jeden z sześciu głównych etnosów nad Mahnedanem, jedyny, który nie zamieszkuje zwarcie jakiejś swojej krainy, ale żyje rozproszony pomiędzy innymi ludami. Huaci podzieleni są na 7 warstw społecznych, z których każda wywodzi swe pochodzenie od jednego z synów Ahvimana. Każda warstwa zawiera w sobie od kilkuset (potomkowie Primeasa) do zaledwie kilkunastu nazwisk (potomkowie Petiasa). Charakterystyczne dla Huatów jest to, że nie parają się uprawą roli - nawet ich najniższe klasy społeczne w jakiś sposób pomagają w napędzaniu huackiej machiny merkantylnej, najczęściej służąc po prostu jako tragarze.

The word "huat" comes as far back as Arhediht, the Old Speech, in which it looks like this:

ÁHVIOT /ˈaxvʲiot/ - merchant

It is an active participle of the verb áhvia - to buy, and it simply denotes the performer of this action.

During the ages, this word changed, perhaps in this way:

áhviot > ahvíot > ahʋíot > əhwát > hwát (spelled huat)

Currently, Huats comprise, alongside Aps, Teks, Lhams, Langs, and Psings, one of the six main ethnicities on the Mahnedan, the only one who does not densely populate their own country, but rather lives scattered among the other peoples. Huats are divided into 7 social strata who all claim descent from one of the sons of Ahviman. Each stratum contains anywhere from a few hundred (the descendants of Primeas) to a dozen or so surnames (the descendants of Petias). Huats' characteristic trait is that they do not engage in agriculture - even their lowest social classes in one way or another help to drive the Huatian mercantile machine, most often as simple porters.
